This is the homepage of the Chado Urasenke Tankokai Sweden Association. Our aim is to reach those who wish to study the Urasenke school way of tea. In order to bring together people who are interested in sharing tea moments, we wish to build a networking platform for everybody interested in Japanese tea or chanoyu regardless of background and affiliation.

Japanska Thesällskapet (Chado Urasenke Tankokai Sweden Association) is a non-for profit charity organisation that has been active for about 30 years, and often in close collaboration with Etnografiska museet in Stockholm.

Japanska Thesällskapet was initiated by tea master Eiko Duke Soei and the cultural journalist Christer Duke at the time when the museum in 1990 had received a Swedish-Japanese donation in the form of the beautiful, and within Europe, unique Japanese tea ceremony house: Zui-Ki-Tei.

Japanska Thesällskapet hosts public tea ceremony demonstrations on certain Sundays during the spring, summer and autumn season, as well as offering introductory courses for those who wishes to know more about the japanese tea ceremony.
During the summer months there are also Open days in the tea house Zui-Ki-Tei, when a guide is present and serves green matcha tea.
During the spring and autumn, Japanska Thesällskapet arranges a lecture programme with themes that relate to japanese culture and the tea ceremony. The lectures, which often use images and film elements, are held in the museum's beautiful Stolpe-room.

Japanska Thesällskapet belongs to the tradition of the Urasenke school that has its base in Kyoto, Japan. For more information about the Urasenke school and the way of tea, please see:
